Unmoorings

Unmoorings

Bogdan Luca

From June 2nd to June 27th
Opening June 4th, 2010 from 7-10pm
Although based exclusively on digital content culled from the Internet, Unmoorings seeks to engage with the real, physical, analog world. How do we, as embodied consciousnesses, function in a world of images? How do images work when they appear in the bodies of paintings? Luca’s paintings are windows upon a world that is both unraveling and desperately trying to pull itself together, to coagulate into a coherent image, to make sense of itself and produce objective meaning. These are moments of ambiguity, of becoming, where a multitude of narratives can emerge and where causality is not apparent. There is no objectivity or truth, especially when it comes to that most corrupt of the senses, in which we nonetheless invest all our personal and cultural trust: the visual. What remains is the subject of Unmoorings: an infinite negotiation of subjectivities suggested through works that trundle between abstraction and figuration, image and material, documentation and indeterminacy.
