Familiar Company

Familiar Company

Megan McCabe

From July 7th to August 1st
Opening July 9th, 2010 from 7-10pm

Assigned the role of observer, we watch as figures explore, communicate and carry-on their day to day routines. Yet out of the seemingly mundane and familiar a disruption appears, a tense moment registers, an unfamiliar glare is cast, and we find ourselves probing for an understanding of what we’ve come to witness. A subtle manipulator of atmosphere, McCabe delivers us a narrative open to interpretation, brimming with nostalgia and unease simultaneously. We recognize and observe the figures moving through the images in Familiar Company, the majority mined from found and personal family photographs, with McCabe highlighting, seclusion, vulnerability, and voyeurism through her bold brushwork and command of the human figure.

McCabe is a graduate of the Drawing and Painting Program at the Ontario College of Art and Design. Familiar Company is McCabe’s second solo exhibition with LE Gallery. She is also the recent recipient of the Emerging Visual Arts Award from the City of Mississagua.
