Opening June 24th, 2011 from 7-10pm
Sheltered presents a series of paintings exploring the various facets of dwelling in the natural environment. McCabe works through familiar territory, from the discovery of hidden glens and sheltered inlets, to the break of dawn through a stand of trees. Focused on the negotiation of a new place by inhabitants, many of the works highlight moments of respite and reflection, capturing the atmosphere exclusive to that moment in time. McCabe is interested in what triggers the immediate waves of comfort found in the settling of a new space, whether it be for an evening campsite, or the completion of a remote cottage. Paintings confident with intention, McCabe’s newest body of work builds on her strong connection to the land, continuing an exploration of the Canadian identity through nature and the immense power our environment has to inspire reflection.
