MITSUO KIMURA

FROM SEPTEMBER 5TH TO SEPTEMBER 30TH
OPENING SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2012 FROM 6-9PM

Japanese artist Mitsuo Kimura opens the Fall season with a selection of works for his latest solo exhibition, Strange Journey. Kimura, working in Canada since 2009, continues to explore the subtle and complex clash of Eastern and Western concepts in his daily and artistic life. Arriving in Canada with stunning technical prowess visible in his paintings on paper, Kimura seeks to integrate his journey reconciling Western Art History and personal themes of displacement, distance, hope and despair. Kimura’s paintings relate an intimate understanding of contemporary anime and Japanese Art movements, while defining a personal signature with use of intricate patterns and the development of symbolic characters. Currently, the aftermath, both emotional and physical, of the 3/11 disaster in Japan, plays a role in Kimura’s body of work, examing the power of nature and the fluid ability of both collective and personal emotion to shift.
